2023-2024 PBL Winter League Wraps Up With Thrilling Championship Wins
Prairie Basketball League (PBL) hosted the 2023-2024 Winter Division Championship Day at Clearspring Middle School this past weekend. The day was packed with thrilling plays, entertaining halftime contests and even a visit from the Winnipeg Sea Bears.
In the Juniors Division, finals MVP AJ Santiago helped Team East secure the championship title against Team West. Scoring Champion Teodrus Yutzy-Hiebert was named the regular season MVP, and Team South’s Chris Montilla was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Champions Team North of the High School Division dominated the court against Team West. Andrew Paul Momodu’s performance earned him finals MVP. Brody Cooper of Team North was the regular season MVP, and rebounds leader Kobe Go won the Defensive Player of the Year award.
The decider of the Seniors Division Championship game all came down to the final minute. In the end, Team North pulled away with the victory against Team Central. Joffrey Aguilar was named the finals MVP, while Team North’s JD Manilay took home regular season MVP honours. The Defensive Player of the Year award was given to Team South’s Richard Sonsona.
In the Open Elite Division, MB Thunder took down the once-undefeated Super Splash Bros. Finals MVP Raymond Kelly helped his team secure the championship win. His teammate Kendall Perpall was named regular season MVP. Cookies and Kareem’s Alex De Jong—who was this season’s rebounds leader—earned the Defensive Player of the Year award.
The night ended with a nail-biting Open A Championship game between Team East and Team South. In the end, Team East took the championship win, and Quirino Morales earned finals MVP honours. Team North’s Christian Legaspi won the regular season MVP award, and Team East’s Richard Lacanilao was named Defensive Player of the Year.
The Future Stars division wrapped up their season with hoops, pizza and family fun.
