Six Teams Crowned At 2023 Spring League Championship Weekend
Glittering hardware lined the tables at last Saturday’s PBL (Prairie Basketball League) Spring League Championship Weekend 2023. The action-packed day provided no shortage of entertainment and saw six teams crowned champions.
It kicked off with the Junior Division where Team Brown and Team Grey battled it out. In the end, MVP Thomas Smith helped Team Grey secure the 60-48 win.
For the High School Division, it was another matchup with Team Brown and Team Grey. Co-MVPs Mark Eser and Teddy Ualat combined for 38 points and helped their squad secure the 74-61 win.
For the first-ever Women’s Division championship game, Team Black and Team Brown put on a nail-biting show. Team Brown edged Team Black with a score of 46-43, and Megan Wiebe was named the MVP.
Team Black and Team Brown of the Senior Division battled it out. With a final score of 63-46, Team Black came away with the dominant win, and Allan Cua took home the MVP honours.
The Open Elite Division saw a rematch between the 2022-2023 Winter League Champions Monstars and MB Thunder. This time, the tables turned, and MVP Kendall Perpall and his MB Thunder squad ended Monstars' reign with a score of 72-64.
To close out the 2023 Spring League, MTJF (More Than Just Feeds) and Croffle Pop of the Open A (All-Filipino) Division. Croffle Pop secured the win with a final score of 81-76, and Gliff Macalua, who dropped 26 points, was named the MVP.
While the 2023 Spring League is over, the action doesn’t stop here. This weekend, PBA Motoclub is happening at the University of Manitoba. Matchups start at 4:30 PM with FBA Steinbach against Pembina Valley. Then, the next generation of players, the Steinbach U15 and Winnipeg U15 squads, take the stage. Finally, a matchup between Winnipeg Selection and PBA Motoclub featuring Filipino stars Jayjay Helterbrand and Marc Pingris will wrap up the evening.
